LRV MAINTENANCE LEAD TECHNICIAN

Reporting to the Maintenance production Manager at Keolis Grand River (KGR), the LRV Maintenance Lead contributes to the the Region of Waterloo’s successful ION Light Rail Transit (LRT) system by assisting with leading the day-to-day aspects of the Electro-Mechanical maintenance team. This position will provide back-up coverage for the Manager, LRV Maintenance and Supervisor, LRV Maintenance as required. The LRV Maintenance Lead is accountable for daily work assignment as well as leadership and guidance to the shop staff.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, assigning, monitoring, training and developing the EMT maintenance team to achieve Keolis and Maintenance objectives.
  • Help ensure team meets safety, quality and customer-service standards.
  • Help identify and respond to safety hazards/concerns and support respective JHSC.
  • Attend daily maintenance production meetings to ensure maintenance, inspection and cleaning complies with established standards.
  • Participate in professional development as required.

EMT Maintenance

  • Perform emergency repair work on rail vehicles in the shop, yard or main service line
  • and involves responding to emergency calls either by riding the trains, or by driving to the scene in an emergency truck; inspecting, troubleshooting and, if possible, correcting/isolating problems while vehicles are in service
  • Perform varied and complex work involving the inspection, maintenance, overhaul, modification, repair, testing and troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components and body equipment found on revenue and non-revenue rail transit vehicle
  • Interpret test results to diagnose malfunctions, planning of troubleshooting procedures using schematics, diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Gain in depth knowledge in vehicle control units, and related electronic systems
  • Repair/overhaul hydraulic, pneumatic, electric brake systems components, gear drive units, wheels and other related equipment
  • Assignments vary from the running repair nature to complete analysis of vehicle problems involving modifications and bench work associated with the removal, testing, troubleshooting, repairing/modifying and re-installing of components
  • Energize and de-energize the overhead traction power system within the maintenance shop utilizing a LOTO process
  • Support the testing, commissioning and maintenance activities of LRVs in yard or on mainline.
  • Safely support the return of LRV’s to the maintenance facility and to verify performance
  • Conduct, support and operate re-railing equipment and acts as flag person for the protection of the public, employees and trains during emergencies and rerouting of trains
  • Document and complete work orders to support work activities such as inspections repairs made, parts usage and work in progress
  • Communicates and liaises with CFF staff as required to support revenue service operation

Administration and Other

  • Assist in development and implementation of EMT procedures and work instructions
  • Record work completed, and materials used in work order system.
  • Comply with current company rules, regulations, procedures and operational instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Valid G driver’s license with ability to operate Hi-Rail vehicles on track

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent Engineering background
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Experience in rail transit or transportation industry preferred
  • Experience in writing maintenance procedures and work instructions
  • Experience with a work order system
  • Maximo Experience an asset
  • DZ license an asset
